Boston College Office of Undergraduate Admission
We will be visiting numerous cities across the globe in the coming weeks. For details, you can view our fall visit schedule. We will also be hosting a series of Eagle Overviews, informational sessions geared toward working with prospective students and their families. Please encourage your students to register for these events in advance.
We continue to have two decision plans for students: Early Action and Regular Decision. Students interested in applying Early Action must submit their application materials by November 1; those interested in applying Regular Decision must submit their application materials by January 1. Our marketing of Early Action has not changed: Early Action is more competitive than Regular Decision, and candidates should not utilize it as a demonstration of interest. We seek to enroll no more than 30% of our entering class through Early Action, and that goal remains unchanged. Our intent always is to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all candidates for admission whether they apply through Early Action or Regular Decision.
Students interested in being considered for the Gabelli Presidential Scholars Program, a full tuition merit-based award, must submit their application by the Early Action deadline of November 1. There are no additional steps necessary to be considered for this award.
I hope this information is helpful to you in working with your students. As a staff, we have tremendous admiration and respect for the work that you do with students and families who are navigating this process. If any of your applicants need assistance, please encourage them to contact us.
If you have any comments regarding the information I have passed along, please contact me directly at (617) 552-4942 or [email protected].

8.7.2015 mit admissions
I am writing to you because you were the counselor for an international student who applied to MIT this past year.
I wanted to let you know of a change in the admissions process for the forthcoming admissions cycle. As you may know, in the past, international students could not apply to MIT during the Early Action (EA) admissions round.
We are pleased to announce that, beginning with this coming admissions cycle (which will begin soon!), the restriction on international students applying early will end. All students, regardless of citizenship or location, will be able to apply for either admissions round, EA or RA.
Other aspects of our policy will not change, including:
More information about our admissions process is available at our website, http://www.mitadmissions.org, and more information about our financial aid process is available at http://sfs.mit.edu.
Thank you for all of the work that you do!

We are pleased to announce that, beginning with this coming admissions cycle (which will begin soon!), the restriction on international students applying early will end. All students, regardless of citizenship or location, will be able to apply for either admissions round, EA or RA.
Other aspects of our policy will not change, including:
- We are a non-binding, non-restrictive Early Action school.
- There is no preference in our process for early applicants. We use the same procedures for admission during EA and RA.
- MIT limits the number of international undergraduates each year. As such, MIT admission is even more competitive for international students applying from overseas.
- Applying for financial aid will not negatively affect a student's admission decision. There is no preference for students who can afford to pay full tuition (international or domestic). Nearly all international students at MIT are on financial aid, and the average need-based scholarship for these students is greater than $40,000 per year.
- Our deadlines will also remain the same, with a November 1 deadline for Early Action. The last acceptable testing date for EA is the November testing date.
More information about our admissions process is available at our website, http://www.mitadmissions.org, and more information about our financial aid process is available at http://sfs.mit.edu.
Thank you for all of the work that you do!

18.6.2015 university of chicago admission
University of Chicago this fall can now begin their applications by visiting getstarted.uchicago.edu and opening a UChicago Account. Through this account, students can also view the 2015-2016 essay questions (included below for your reference), upload materials, and, later on, track the status of their applications and receive their admissions decisions.
New last year, students applying to the University of Chicago may use either the Common Application or the Universal Application. We treat both applications equally, so students should feel free to use whichever method they prefer. As in the past, students will also need to submit the UChicago Supplement in order to complete their application. Students who choose to apply through the Common Application may submit their supplement either directly through the Common Application or through their UChicago Account, while students who apply through the Universal Application must submit the supplement through their UChicago Account.
The UChicago writing supplement asks students to write two or three essays: one optional short essay asking students to tell us about their ‘favorites,’ one required short essay asking “Why UChicago?” and one required extended essay responding to one of our essay prompts. Students will be able to upload a document for each of these essays—allowing them to be as creative as they would like and eliminating concerns about formatting and strict word counts.
We hope this information helps. As always, please fee free to reach out to your local admissions counselor with any questions.
Best,
Peter Wilson, AB’10
Senior Associate Director of Admissions
The University of Chicago
